The program consists of six components:
1) Edge Technique: 1976 Olympic Champion John Curry developed exercises and a class format much like a Ballet Class on Ice. This format is used by Ice Theatre of New York as well as by many of the large touring companies such as Ice Capades. Its focus is to teach ensemble skating. Beth’s modern dance version of class is integrated with Mr. Curry’s.
2) Performance Groups: Skaters learn and perform complex choreography.
3) Choreography Workshops: Experienced skaters develop phrases of movements, then sentences and paragraphs, relating physical ideas and musical rhythms and dissonance’s to their movements.
4) Off Ice Training: Students gain the flexibility and strength benefits of Yoga, Pilates and Dance. This off ice training accelerates the learning process and prevents injury.
5) Moves in the Field and Jumps and Spins: These classes offer sound technique for the difficult acrobatic elements that punctuate and add depth to choreography.
6) Testing
A. The Learn-to Skate Basic Skills Program developed by the USFSA is taught.
B. Rights of Passage: Students follow an individualized sequence of levels that challenge them to put all their skills to use in front of an audience.
