1. Be on the ice or in the dance room on time and ready to move.
2. Carefully listen to what your teacher has to say, do your best to follow the teachers instructions without making any judgments on yourself or the exercise.
3. If you need to leave the ice or the class room ask your teacher’s permission. Use the bathroom and have a light snack before class begins so that you will be less likely to need to leave the class.
4. Keep chatting with friends to a minimum while class is in session.
5. If an issue arises during class that cannot be solved easily and quickly with out disrupting the class ask to speak with your teacher or the skating school director after class to discuss the issue. Class time is for the whole class, not for a few individuals. Please be understanding and respectful to the rest of the class that may not be involved in your problem.
6. You may not like every piece of music that is played or chosen as a recital piece do your best to understand what the teacher sees in the music. You will have a chance to pick music you like and skate to it at another time. Please keep your opinion to yourself if you dislike the music selection. Talk to your teacher privately about the issue you are having.
7. During Class time you may not ask “What time is it?” or “When is class over?” There are clocks on the wall and the schedule is written in the registration form for the classes. These questions suggest that you are bored and want class to end.
8. Dress appropriately. See “What to wear to class.”
9. If someone gets hurt, please alert the nearest teacher. If someone falls during a class, rehearsal or performance allow the teacher to take care of the person and get them off the ice to a comfortable place. Students should continue practicing/skating until the teacher is able to return. If the injury is very serious everyone will sense that and students may then act appropriately, otherwise it is best to keep going. Your friend who has fallen wouldn’t want you to stop a performance for them. Then they would have the responsibility of ruining everyone’s performance besides having an injury.

Finding the sport or art form in which you can express your creativity and or display your physical prowess is very important. Sometimes it is the group or the teacher that you are drawn to more than the activity. However this occurs, it is wonderful and precious. Build upon the experience and give to it. It is not everyday that you will find yourself with a new opportunity to grow, shine and learn. However it is everyday that you can choose to blossom right where you are. Respect and value your teacher as you value yourself. Students become the teachers of tomorrow. In teaching you will learn.
