Boundless Edge Holiday Show

Contemporary Dance on Ice Dramatic and Theatrical

Saturday December 17th, 7:00PM, 2011 – Kiwanis Ice Arena in Saugerties

The Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble will open our 9th season with a performance at our home rink, in Saugerties. This season we are reviving some of our most popular ensemble and solo works created by Boundless Edge Founder, Beth Woronoff during the past fifteen years.

In chronological order “Red”, first created and performed by Ms. Woronoff in 1996. This Graham inspired work was shown at many Ice Theatre of New York performances including several memorable ones at Rockefeller Center. This time, seventeen year old Saugerties native, Sara Forsythe will be wearing the ankle length red dress and skating the original choreography. The next oldest piece is skated to the Bach Cello Suites, we will show “Lightness” which is the first part of “Six Arcs of a Circle” This work was created in 1997 during the first Chelsea Piers/Sky Rink Artist in Residence Ice Grant and will now be performed by twelve year old Ana Alexander.

Now we jump to 2006 and a piece entitled “My Kind of Blue” and yes it is set to Miles Davis’ “All Blues”. Originally performed by Ms. Woronoff she will once again entertain the audience with her fast spins and fanciful footwork that responds to and drives the wobble of the saxophone. Created the following year in 2007 the ensemble will perform “Don’t Break Down”. The 6 skaters in this fun and girlish piece will lift your spirits as will “Celtic Techno” which entered our repertoire the following year, disciplined Irish steps are contrasted with contemporary gestures in a mix which will delight. “Volcano” is a new born, just created last season. This dynamic trio depicts female warriors defending their territory each of which has her own unique skating prowess. In addition we will have two new works as yet unnamed also a Special Guest from NYC will perform, to be announced soon.

$12 Adults

$9 Students and Seniors

Discounts for groups of 10 or more.

About Boundless Edge ….

Boundless Edge is one of the nation’s only artistic, choreography-based ice dance ensembles and schools. Our mission is to offer both a training program and performance outlet for students who wish to pursue ice skating as a creative art and to present this innovative choreography to audiences in the Hudson Valley and beyond. Our program offers young students, professional skaters and audiences interested in ice skating an alternative to the competitive ice skating format.

The Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble and School began in 2002 with 6 students and a single performance held at the Saugerties Kiwanis Ice Arena. Currently, the school has over 30 students enrolled, many of whom take class 2 or 3 times each week. Over the years our performance seasons have included appearances at Mohonk on Ice on Ice with Oksana Baiul and Nancy Kerrigan, the New Works and Young Artists series presented by the Ice Theatre of New York, Milford Pennsylvania’s Winter Lights Festival, the New Paltz Winter Carnival along with two annual performances at our home rink. Our incredible guest performers have included Elin Schran’s, Boston Ice Theatre, Katherine Healy and David Lu of The Ice Theatre of New York, Gregory Wittrock, Performance Artist and Ksenia Makarova, Russian National champion. We have skated to the live music of “A Perfect Gift, All that is Jazz” and set the dance choreography of local artist, clyde forth onto the ice. this spring NYC dance choreographer, Linda Diamond will set a piece from her company’s repertoire onto our ice skaters.

Boundless Edge is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of Boundless Edge may be made payable to Fractured Atlas.
